What Story is your Brand Telling?
Using Archetypes to Build your Brand
In September, 2009, The New York Times Magazine ran a cover article highlighting the publication of CG Jung's Red Book, calling it "The Holy Grail of the Unconscious." This book formed the foundation of Jung's work on "archetypes," which can be thought of as universally shared ideas or stories that form the content of our collective unconscious. Fritz Grutzner, president of the brand strategy firm Brandgarten, has been using Jungian archetypes to successfully build strong brand stories for nearly a decade. He will demonstrate how to use archetypes as a profound yet practical tool to build a brand's strategy and help you discover and tell your brand's most compelling story.

President's Message
As my brain fumbles to figure out which direction to take my last President's letter, I'm reminded by Dr. Seuss that sometimes you should just cut to the quick. "The writer who breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader who reads," he said.
So in the interest of brevity and easy reading, I will offer my thanks via bulleted list. As outgoing President, I give my thanks to:
- our members who sustain our club and inspire us to push forward; - our committee volunteers and board members who are the brains and brawn; - the employers who are supportive of their employees' involvement, especially the team leaders at Dupaco who have encouraged and supported me; and - the businesses who support the club with donations, which enhance AAF Dubuque's offerings.
Get involved in AAF Dubuque. If you're not a member, become one. If you aren't an engaged member, maximize your membership and volunteer. You will most certainly get back more than you put in to it. After all, Dr. Seuss also said, "If you never did, you should. These things are fun, and fun is good."
Best of luck to the incoming board. Under the leadership of Ryan Brown, you are sure to accomplish great things! Cheers!
