Engagement is the New Black

Join us on Thursday, January 14 as AAF Dubuque welcomes Dennis Ryan, Chief Creative Officer, at Element 79 is an award-winning, classically-trained big agency creative with deep experience in television...which makes him an endangered species.

It's not just media platforms that are evolving but consumers are reinventing the very way they interact with media.

It's all very confusing, but if you take the half-full perspective, it's also pretty exciting. After all, where there's confusion, there's money to be made, but only if you can reinvent your offering to provide a new, more relevant kind of value. That challenge fills Dennis' work weeks these days and he looks forward to both share what he's learned and learn how others are evolving.

President's Message
ADDY® is going to the Oscars this year. Are you going to the ADDYs? And what are you entering? Entry deadline is nearing... you have until 7 pm, Tuesday, January 12, to get your best creative together and entered in this year's award-winning ADDY competition!

Some tidbits you may not know regarding our local ADDY competition:

  • Within our district, our club has an outstanding ADDY participation rate for our size
  • Our club pays the expenses for ALL Gold ADDYs to be forwarded to district-level competition, giving these companies the chance to compete and advance to national ADDY competition. (Silver ADDY winners have the opportunity to forward their winning entries to district competition at their own expense.)
  • The deadline for student entries has been extended to January 22. Student entries should be dropped off with payment at Dupaco's Asbury location at 5865 Saratoga Road, between the hours of 8:30 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • NEW THIS YEAR: The One That Got Away is a local-only professional category that will honor creative which was mocked up for a client in 2009 but was never used. Entering this category is easy since you don't have to submit anything online. Simply bring your category entry(ies) along with $20 per entry ($25 per entry for nonmembers) to entry drop-off and you're set. (Winners in this category will not advance to district or national competition.)

Creative isn't the only thing to be awarded during ADDY time. The Silver Medal and AAF Dubuque Member of the Year awards are also annually presented to two outstanding individuals within our industry. Get details and complete the nomination forms by using the links above. Please take the time to nominate deserving individuals! Nominations will be accepted through January 22, with winners announced at the ADDY Awards ceremony.

May this new year bring you renewed creative energy and enthusiasm. I hope to see you at next week's luncheon covering how to evolve along with evolving media!

Best regards,
Jennifer
