Special Event

January Luncheon - Dennis Ryan
Engagement is the New Black

Save the date Thursday, January 14 as AAF Dubuque will welcome Dennis Ryan, Chief Creative Officer at Element 79, as he presents Engagement is the New Black. Dennis is an award-winning, classically-trained big agency creative with deep experience in television which makes him an endangered species.

It's not just media platforms that are evolving but consumers are reinventing the very way they interact with media. It's all very confusing, but if you take the half-full perspective, it's also pretty exciting. After all, where there's confusion, there's money to be made, but only if you can reinvent your offering to provide a new, more relevant kind of value. That challenge fills Dennis' work weeks these days and he looks forward to both share what he's learned and learn how others are evolving.

Follow him on Twitter @element79 and his weekday blog at www.brandsareopinions.com .

President's Message
The snow's flying and that can only mean one thing - the ADDYs are around the corner! (Oh, and shoveling.) The committee is working hard on planning an award-winning ADDY experience for all. Look for the call for entries to be hand-delivered to your office door soon, and be thinking about which of your pieces will make the cut and be entered into this year's competition. Be sure to mark these important dates on your calendar: January 12, entry drop off, and February 26, award ceremony.

Speaking of important dates, the holiday season is in full swing, and Christmas is right around the corner. Every year my plan includes scaling back from the previous one. But every year, the same holiday scene plays out, and this year is no exception. Act one scene one takes place in the pre-dawn hours on Black Friday. There stands Jen Hanniford, drowning in a sea of people, cart jammed with can't-resist items, none of which seem to be on my carefully crafted list. So by now, I'm looking for a little relief from the holiday drama. Enter Thursday's speaker and magician Craig Beytien, who's set to deliver the crowd just the right combination of entertainment and education. Get registered now for this magical holiday presentation!

As the credits roll on the year 2009, I wish you and yours all the best this holiday season and into the new year! Cheers~
